Before Hatching Green properties and school runs became our reality, the White Horse was our first welcoming introduction to Harpenden life. With an incredible sun-soaked beer garden, plenty of parking, and a menu that is resolutely and comfortably "fine," it remains the ultimate casual pitstop—just don't mistake it for a candlelit date night spot.

Located just past the official border in Kinsbourne Green, The Fox is a local favourite with a wonderfully welcoming service team and a cozy bar. But does the food match the hospitality? We paid a Sunday visit to put their specials and slow-cooked pork belly to the test—and walked away with some very mixed feelings.
